WELLINGTON, Feb. 10 (Xinhua) -- New Zealand will hold a global investment summit in March to attract about 100 of the world's high-profile investors, business leaders, and construction companies to boost the country's economic growth.

The New Zealand Infrastructure Investment Summit will highlight partnership opportunities for overseas investment across New Zealand's economy that will boost growth, and many ministers will be at the event to share the government's ambitions and plans over the two days, Prime Minister Christopher Luxon said on Monday.

The announcement followed a series of recent moves to accelerate growth, including the creation of Invest NZ, a new agency to attract investment, cutting through the red tape holding back important projects, and visa changes to attract international investors.

Infrastructure Minister Chris Bishop said greater foreign investment and more partnerships with the government will help address New Zealand's massive infrastructure gap.

The summit, which will take place in Auckland on March 13-14, will highlight changes to policy, regulation, and legislation that make it easier to do business in New Zealand, along with other investment opportunities in a range of growth sectors and the Maori economy, Bishop said.

New Zealand's unemployment continued to grow, hitting 5.1 percent in the December 2024 quarter, the highest since the September 2020 quarter when it was 5.2 percent, according to the statistics department Stats NZ last week.
