VIENTIANE, Feb. 10 (Xinhua) -- Inflation in Laos dropped to 15.5 percent in January, down from 16.9 percent in December 2024, according to the latest report from the Lao Statistics Bureau.

The decline in the inflation rate is attributed to several factors, including a stable supply of agricultural products and improved exchange rate stability, according to a report from the Lao Statistics Bureau on Monday.

The highest price rise was recorded in the cost of housing, water, electricity and gas category, which stood at 24.7 percent.

This was followed by the cost of medical care and medicines category at 23.3 percent, the education category at 22.4 percent, and the household goods category at 22.2 percent.

In response to the high inflation rate, the Lao government discussed strategies to curb rising prices while emphasizing the promotion of local production, reducing imports, and securing financial support for businesses. The government also highlighted the importance of increasing domestic production to reduce reliance on imports and enhance economic resilience.
