KABUL, Feb. 10 (Xinhua) -- Key highways in Afghanistan, including the Salang highway that links Kabul, the national capital, to nine provinces in the north, became inaccessible as a result of heavy snowfalls, an official at the Ministry of Public Works said on Sunday night.
"The Salang highway has been blocked due to severe snowfalls, storms, strong winds and dusty fog since Sunday evening," Mohammad Ashraf Haqshenas, spokesman for the ministry, posted on social media.
According to the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation, 25 out of Afghanistan's 34 provinces will experience heavy snowfalls, floods and heavy rain over the next few days. ■
