BUCHAREST, Feb. 10 (Xinhua) -- Romania's trade deficit widened by 15.3 percent in 2024, reaching 33.393 billion euros (34.4 billion U.S. dollars), an increase of 4.4 billion euros from the previous year, the National Institute of Statistics (INS) reported on Monday.
In December 2024, the country registered free on board (FOB) exports of 6.581 billion euros and cost, insurance and freight (CIF) imports of 9.916 billion euros, resulting in a monthly deficit of 3.336 billion euros.
Compared to December 2023, exports in December 2024 rose by 7.1 percent, while imports increased by 3.5 percent.
For the full year, FOB exports edged down 0.4 percent to 92.691 billion euros, whereas CIF imports grew by 3.3 percent to 126.084 billion euros.
Machinery and transport equipment remained the dominant trade sector, accounting for 47 percent of exports and 36.4 percent of imports. Other manufactured products also played a significant role, making up 28.5 percent of exports and 28.6 percent of imports. (1 euro = 1.03 U.S. dollar) ■
