MADRID, Feb. 8 (Xinhua) -- Real and Atletico Madrid drew a thrilling Madrid derby 1-1 in the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium on Saturday night to see Real Madrid maintains its 1-point lead over Atletico at the top of La Liga.

Atletico held on for a point after Julian Alvarez's first half penalty put it ahead and Kylian Mbappe leveled for Real Madrid in the second half.

Jude Bellingham, Rodrygo and Mbappe all went close to a winner for Real Madrid, with Jan Oblak producing several good saves as Atletico held on.

FC Barcelona would close to within two points of the top if it wins in Sevilla on Sunday.

Oihan Sancet scored a hat-trick as Athletic Bilbao enjoyed a comfortable 3-0 win at home to Girona to consolidate its fourth place.

Sancet's first goal came from the penalty spot after a foul on Mikel Jauregizar in the 42nd minute, and he doubled Athletic's lead with a header in first half injury time.

Athletic was content to soak up Girona's timid pressure in the second half, before Sancet completed his hat-trick with a clever chip in the 79th minute.

Villarreal remains four points behind Athletic after second half goals from Alex Baena and Ayoze Perez, who scored after 53 and 66 minutes, respectively, before Fuster pulled a goal back for Las Palmas with five minutes left.

Celta Vigo came back from 2-0 down at home to Betis to win a thrilling match 3-2 and ease the pressure after a bad run of results had left it in danger of falling into the relegation dogfight.

Things looked back for Celta when Antony's first goal for Betis, and Diego Llorente's effort after 22 minutes put the visitor into the driving seat.

Goals from Fran Beltran and Javi Rodriguez after 63 and 65 minutes leveled the score, with Williot Swedberg sealing three vital points in the 87th minute after Sergio Carreira's assist.
