SOFIA, Feb. 7 (Xinhua) -- Bulgarian law enforcement authorities have arrested three members of an international criminal group that manufactures synthetic drugs, the country's Interior Ministry said on Friday.
The three Bulgarians were detained on Thursday on a European arrest warrant issued by Belgian authorities, in connection with a joint investigation between Bulgaria's General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime and its Belgian counterpart.
The investigation concerned the gang's activities on the territory of European Union countries, the ministry said.
Thanks to the joint actions of authorities from both countries and based on information provided by the Bulgarian side, a large laboratory for producing synthetic narcotic substances was discovered in Belgium in December 2024, it added.
The investigation is ongoing. ■
