VALLETTA, Feb. 7 (Xinhua) -- Industrial output in Malta increased by 14.3 percent in December 2024 compared to the same month in the previous year, according to official statistics published on Friday.
The National Statistics Office said in a statement that the manufacturing output increased by 14.5 percent year-on-year in December 2024. The largest annual upward change in industrial production was registered in the production of computer, electronic and optical products and motor vehicles (36.7 percent), followed by other manufacturing output (17.2 percent) and the production of food products and beverages (6.0 percent).
On the other hand, decreases in production were registered in rubber, plastic and other non-metallic mineral products (9.4 percent), wood, paper products and printing (7.6 percent) and chemical and pharmaceutical products (1.7 percent)
Compared to November 2024, total industrial production increased by 3.4 percent.
The monthly Index of Industrial Production is a business cycle indicator. It provides an early measure of change in the volume of industrial output produced by domestic businesses in the manufacturing, energy, and quarrying sectors in Malta. ■
