ADDIS ABABA, Feb. 7 (Xinhua) -- Ethiopia has unveiled the second-phase corridor development project of the capital, Addis Ababa, involving major reconstruction and promotion of the city's landscape.

The project aims to modernize the city's infrastructure and improve its transportation networks, the Office of the Prime Minister said in a statement Thursday.

Covering a total area of 2,879 hectares, the second-phase corridor development project involves the construction of 477 km of roads, including 240 km of asphalt roads and 237 km pedestrian walkways.

More than 200 public recreational spaces and car parking centers will also be established, the statement said.

The project will introduce electric vehicle charging stations in 58 locations and create over 100 km of bike lanes to promote eco-friendly transportation options.

The corridor development also includes the construction of 17 sports centers to provide ample opportunities for citizens to engage in physical activities.

The second-phase corridor development represents a significant stride toward making Addis Ababa a model city, with cutting-edge infrastructure and amenities that cater to the needs of its residents, the statement said.
