KUALA LUMPUR, Feb. 6 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's services producer price index (SPPI), which measures changes in producer prices for the domestic services sector, posted a marginal increase of 0.7 percent in 2024, as compared to a 2.1 percent rise in 2023, official data showed Thursday.

The increase was primarily driven by the arts, entertainment and recreation index (6.7 percent), followed by accommodation and food and beverage service activities (2.6 percent) and education (0.8 percent) indices, the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said in a statement.

Other subsectors that recorded an increase included health and real estate indices, both rising by 0.3 percent, while the professional index rose by 0.2 percent.

In contrast, the transportation index declined by 1.4 percent, whereas the information and communication index remained unchanged.

As for the fourth quarter last year, the SPPI continued its upward trend, rising by 0.5 percent in the fourth quarter of 2024, as compared to 0.3 percent in the previous quarter, reflecting a rise in services sector pricing.

On a quarter-on-quarter basis, the SPPI increased by 0.3 percent, as compared to 0.1 percent in the third quarter of 2024.
