ANKARA, Feb. 5 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President Donald Trump's proposal to relocate Palestinians from Gaza is "unacceptable" and fundamentally flawed, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said Wednesday.

"Even considering such a plan is wrong," Fidan told the semi-official Anadolu Agency in an interview.

"We oppose all initiatives that seek to exclude the people of Gaza from the equation in the region. The idea of displacement is neither acceptable for the region nor for us," he said.

Fidan emphasized Türkiye's firm stance on Palestinian rights, rejecting any efforts to remove Hamas from Gaza's reconstruction and governance.

He criticized proposals that fail to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and instead focus on security concerns at the expense of Palestinian lives.

"The real issue in Gaza is that people are facing genocide, with 1.8 million struggling for survival," he said. "Proposals that disregard Palestinian security while prioritizing others' security concerns are simply not viable."

Unilateral decisions could fuel future conflicts, he said, stressing the need for balanced solutions that consider both Israeli and Palestinian security concerns.

Fidan's comments followed Trump's remarks on Tuesday in a joint press conference with visiting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, saying the United States will take ownership of the Gaza Strip and redevelop it after Palestinians are relocated elsewhere.
