ALMATY, Feb. 4 (Xinhua) -- The Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) plane that crashed near the city of Aktau, Kazakhstan, on Dec. 25, 2024, was fully airworthy when it began its flight and while operating en route to Grozny, Russia, according to a preliminary report released by the Kazakh Ministry of Transport on Tuesday.

The airworthiness conditions, including the operation of the flight control systems, were confirmed by the Flight Data Recorder (FDR).

Both engines of the aircraft remained operational until the accident, the report said.

The AZAL passenger plane, an Embraer 190, was flying from Baku to Grozny with 67 people on board, 38 of whom died. The plane crashed near Aktau after several failed attempts to land in Grozny.
