BUENOS AIRES, Feb. 3 (Xinhua) -- Santiago Ascacibar and Gabriel Neves scored either side of halftime as Estudiantes secured a 2-0 home win over Racing Club in Argentina's Primera Division Apertura tournament on Monday.
Ascacibar put his side ahead from a tight angle in the 34th minute and Gabriel Neves doubled the lead with a long-range effort just before the hour.
The result leaves Estudiantes top of Group A with seven points from their first three matches of the season while Racing dropped to fifth, a point further back.
Elsewhere in Argentina's top flight, Erik Godoy's 92nd-minute strike gave Argentinos Juniors a 1-0 home win over Platense. The Bicho are now third in Group A, behind Estudiantes on goal difference, while Platense are seventh in Group B with four points so far.
In other fixtures on Monday, Independiente Rivadavia won 3-0 at Belgrano, Tigre edged to a 1-0 home victory over Union Santa Fe and Defensa y Justicia prevailed 2-1 at home to Central Cordoba. ■
