BUENOS AIRES, Feb. 2 (Xinhua) -- Chile international midfielder Carlos Palacios scored late as Boca Juniors claimed its first win of the new season with a 2-1 home victory over Huracan in Argentina's Primera Division Apertura tournament on Sunday.
Edinson Cavani gave the hosts the lead at La Bombonera with a low free-kick that deflected into the bottom left corner off the Huracan wall.
The visitors equalized on the half hour through Marco Pellegrino, who headed home from the edge of the six-yard box following a set piece.
Palacios restored Boca's lead when he ran onto Miguel Merentiel's perfect through ball and slotted a first-time effort into the far corner.
"For me it's a dream come true," said Palacios, who joined Boca from Colo-Colo in January.
Palacios, who was playing just his fourth game for the club, revealed that he idolized Boca president Juan Roman Riquelme during his playing days with the Buenos Aires outfit.
"I used to watch him score here and I wanted to do the same," the 24-year-old said. "I had chances to do so last week and I'm happy that I managed to score this time."
Boca Juniors are now fourth in the 15-team Group A standings with five points from three matches, a point behind leader Racing, who has a game in hand. Huracan is 12th with two points so far.
In other fixtures on Sunday, River Plate drew 0-0 at San Lorenzo, Newell's Old Boys prevailed 1-0 at home to Aldosivi, Independiente eased to a 2-0 home win over Gimnasia and Instituto won 2-0 at home to Velez Sarsfield. ■
