KUALA LUMPUR, Feb. 3 (Xinhua) -- Equitable economic development is a responsibility that the government must deliver to the people, Malaysia's King Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar said on Monday.
In his royal address at the opening of the first parliamentary sitting for 2025, the 66-year-old head of state also congratulated Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and the government on the country's impressive economic performance, expressing hope that it would continue to improve.
"I am grateful to see the economic development, including the improvement in domestic economic performance and increased foreign investments, the strengthening of the ringgit, and the continued low unemployment rate."
"However, the government must ensure that this positive performance brings prosperity to all citizens and not just benefits certain groups," he said.
He also urged the country's members of parliament to focus on issues that benefit the people while avoiding excessive politicization of sensitive issues. ■
