YANGON, Feb. 2 (Xinhua) -- A total of 11 solar power plant projects are currently under construction and development in Myanmar, with a total capacity of 1,026 megawatts, state-run daily The Global New Light of Myanmar reported on Sunday.

Among the projects, four projects are in Nay Pyi Taw, three in Mandalay region, one in Bago region, and one in Shan state, contributing 530 megawatts, the report said, citing the Electricity and Energy Development Commission.

In addition, hybrid (gas engine and solar) projects are in Mandalay and Magway regions, with a combined installed capacity of 496 megawatts.

To meet growing electricity demand, the government is accelerating renewable energy projects to boost power production, the report said.

The Electricity and Energy Development Commission aims to prioritize the development of electricity and energy infrastructure to support daily livelihood and economic growth, with the help of local and international investments, it added.

Myanmar runs 28 hydropower plants, 27 thermal power plants, and eight solar power plants, with a total installed capacity of 6,371 megawatts, the report said.
