MADRID, Jan. 26 (Xinhua) -- Spanish side Real Betis has agreed a deal to take Manchester United's Brazilian winger Antony on loan for the rest of the season.
Antony joined United from Ajax in 2022 at the request of former United coach Erik ten Hag for 96 million U.S. dollars, becoming the club's second most expensive signing after Paul Pogba.
However, despite a bright start, the 24-year-old has failed to live up to expectations, with just one goal in the Premier League since April 2023.
This season he has played only a minor role for the club, with eight substitute appearances totaling just 133 minutes in the Premier League.
"Everybody at United would like to wish Antony the best of luck for his spell in Seville," commented the United website.
The move will ease the English side's Financial Fair Play worries, with club sources saying Betis will pay over 80 percent of Antony's salary, thought to be over 125,000 U.S. dollars per week, although the winger's contract at Old Trafford doesn't expire until June 2027. ■
