MANILA, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- Three children have been killed after they were hit by a speeding 10-wheeler cargo truck in Bukidnon province in the southern Philippines, police said Wednesday.
Police said the three grade-school students, all girls, were walking on their way to school when the accident happened around 1:30 p.m. local time on Tuesday.
The victims, two of them siblings, died at the scene.
Investigation showed that the truck driver initially fled the scene but surrendered to the authorities a few hours later.
Police said the truck driver, who had been taken into custody, admitted to having dozed off while driving and would face multiple criminal charges. ■
