France leads medals table after 6 days at Torino World Winter University Games

TURIN, Italy, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- France and Germany maintained their 1-2 placings on both the gold medal and medals tables at the Torino 2025 FISU World University Winter Games after six days.

France already grabbed 17 gold, eight silver and nine bronze medals to top both standings, while Germany remained second with six gold, nine silver and seven bronze.

Finland occupied the third place with 5-3-2, but their 10 medals in total were only placed them sixth on the medal standing. Spain (4-7-2) was third in the medal standings with 13 medals, but only ranked fifth on the gold medal table.

Even the eighth-placed Kazakhstan (3-4-4) have a chance to be ranked higher as they won 11 medals in total, the same as the fourth-placed Poland (5-2-4).

Japan, Switzerland and Italy each pocketed eight medals as the contest will be more competitive among the top 10 teams.

France won three gold medals on Sunday as Victoire Tillier's first run got the best 91.00 points, which was good enough for her to win the women's freeski big air.

Remi Cantan finished first in the men's ski mountaineering vertical race by 13 minutes and 22.5 seconds, while Margot Ravinel added the third gold for France in the women's race, timing 16:01.5.

Klemen Vidmar and Tinkara Valcl won gold medals for Slovenia in men's freeski big air and women's snowboard big air respectively.
