TUNIS, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- Tunisian security forces have arrested a drug dealer active in the eastern coastal province of Monastir, and seized more than 1,900 narcotic pills, the Tunisian National Guard said Monday on its Facebook page.

"After a series of investigations, the person concerned was arrested at his residence in the town of Moknine, where 1,935 narcotic pills and two electronic scales were seized during the operation," it said.

Investigations into the case were underway, it said, without providing additional details.

Upon reviewing the case, the public prosecution authorized the detention of the suspect pending investigations.

The Tunisian government has taken a strong stance against drug trafficking, arresting hundreds of individuals involved in the crime during recent nationwide operations.
