ISLAMABAD, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan recorded a current account surplus of 1.21 billion U.S. dollars in the first half of the current fiscal year from July 2024 to June 2025, as compared to a deficit of 1.39 billion dollars during the same period last year, the central bank said Friday.
The current account for the month of December 2024 also recorded a surplus of 582 million dollars as compared to 279 million dollars of surplus of the same month in the previous year, said the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), the central bank the in country.
The positive trend in current account balance has continued for the fifth consecutive month in December 2024, taking the overall current account surplus for the period of July to December of fiscal year 2025 to 1.21 billion dollars, according to the central bank.
Commenting on the development, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that the continuous surplus in the current account reflected the right direction of economic policies of the country.
He said that positive economic indicators reflected the growing trust of the business community, adding that new initiatives launched recently by the government will further strengthen the national economy. ■
