COLOMBO, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) -- Nearly 50,000 dengue cases were reported in Sri Lanka in 2024 with 24 fatalities, according to the latest figures released by the country's National Dengue Control Unit (NDCU).
The NDCU said 49,877 dengue cases were identified in 2024 and the case fatality rate was 0.05 percent.
A total of 2,045 cases have been reported so far in January this year, with the Western Province, the most populous province in Sri Lanka, accounting for 44.1 percent of these cases, according to the NDCU.
Over 88,000 dengue cases were reported with 57 fatalities in the South Asian country in 2023. ■
