ISLAMABAD, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) -- The weekly inflation measured by the Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) in Pakistan witnessed an increase of 1.9 percent on a year-on-year basis, according to a report by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
The PBS report on its website on Sunday showed that the SPI was calculated to measure the price movement of important commodities, and it comprised 51 essential items collected from 50 markets in 17 cities across the country.
The PBS data revealed that the prices of potatoes, pulse gram, powdered milk, beef, garlic, vegetable oil, shirting, gas charges and firewood rose during the week ended on Jan. 9, 2025, compared to the corresponding period last year.
On the other hand, prices of onions, wheat flour, chili powder, electricity charges, diesel, petrol, and bread dropped during the same period.
The statistics showed that the SPI dropped slightly by 0.65 percent on a week-on-week basis, with a main drop observed in the prices of tomatoes, potatoes, eggs, onions, pulse grams, rice, and liquified petroleum gas.
The prices of chicken, cooking oil, sugar, bread, washing soap, garlic, firewood, and others increased weekly, according to PBS.
During the week, out of 51 items, prices of 18 items increased, 10 items decreased and 23 items remained stable, added the PBS. ■
