KUALA LUMPUR, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's manufacturing sector sales expanded by 4.5 percent year-on-year, and amounted to 161.9 billion ringgit (36.03 billion U.S. dollars) in November 2024, official data showed Friday.
The expansion was driven by a double-digit increase of 12.3 percent in the food, beverages and tobacco sub-sector and enhanced by 7.1 percent rise in the electrical and electronics products sub-sector, the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said in a statement.
On a month-on-month basis, the sales value increased by 0.3 percent from 161.4 billion ringgit registered in October 2024.
The sales value of export-oriented industries which account for 71.5 percent of total manufacturing sales rose by 5.6 percent during the month.
Throughout the first 11 months this year, the sales value of the manufacturing sector amounted to 1.73 trillion ringgit, an increase of 4.5 percent as compared to the same period of 2023. (1 ringgit equals to 0.22 U.S. dollars) ■
