ALMATY, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- Kazakhstan's security services dismantled 31 international and 27 regional supply routes to combat illegal drug trafficking in 2024, the country's National Security Committee (NSC) announced on Thursday.

The NSC operations also shut down 32 underground drug laboratories producing illegal substances destined for distribution both within the country and abroad, it said.

Authorities confiscated over three tonnes of narcotics and psychotropic substances, along with 4.5 tonnes of poppy straw raw materials and 18 tonnes of chemical precursors used to produce synthetic drugs, with the street value of the seized drugs estimated at 36 billion tenge (about 68.5 million U.S. dollars).

Kazakhstan participated in 25 joint operations with international partners targeting drug smuggling and transit routes through its territory.

So far, 164 individuals have been convicted of drug-related crimes as part of the ongoing crackdown. The NSC noted that efforts to tackle drug trafficking will continue.
