LONDON, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) -- Bournemouth will be without Turkish international striker Enes Unal for the rest of the season after the 27-year-old tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee on Wednesday.
The club confirmed that Unai, who joined from Spanish side Getafe a year ago, had suffered the injury while training.
"Our thoughts are with Enes at this moment as he begins to process another significant period of rehabilitation ahead," reads the club statement.
Bournemouth explained Unal will "undergo surgery to repair the ligament in the coming days and the club's medical and performance staff will support him in every way possible throughout."
Unal also missed the first half of the 2023-24 season with a knee ligament injury, and he joins winger Evanilson on the sidelines after the Brazilian had an operation on a broken bone in his foot.
The club has recalled forward Daniel Jebbison from a loan at second-tier Watford as they look to build on a first half of the season that currently sees them sit in seventh place in the Premier League after a run of eight games without defeat. ■
