KHARTOUM, Jan. 5 (Xinhua) -- At least 10 people were killed and 30 others injured on Sunday in an airstrike that targeted an area south of the Sudanese capital Khartoum, a volunteer group and local media reported.
"Ten people were killed and 30 others injured, including five cases of first-degree burns, after an airstrike targeted the Al-Sahrij station in the Mayo neighborhood, south of Khartoum," the South Khartoum Emergency Room, a local volunteer group, said in a statement.
The group noted that the Al-Sahrij station had been bombarded three times within one month, pointing out that the area is usually crowded with civilians, as it contains a market and several food shops.
For its part, the Sudanese news portal Al-Rakoba reported on Sunday that most of the injured in the airstrike were transferred to Bashair Hospital, located approximately 4 km from the site of the incident.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Sudan has been gripped by a devastating civil conflict since mid-April 2023, which has claimed at least 29,683 lives and displaced over 14 million people, according to the latest estimates by international organizations. ■
