MADRID, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) -- La Liga struggler Valencia on Saturday confirmed the signing of Nigerian international forward Umar Sadiq.

The 27-year-old joins the side that is currently second from the bottom of the classification on loan from Real Sociedad until the end of the campaign, with Valencia having an option to make the move permanent for around 10 million euros (10.3 million U.S. dollars).

New Valencia coach Carlos Corberan hopes Sadiq will add pace and power to a side that currently only has Hugo Duro and Rafa Mir as specialist strikers.

Sadiq joined Real Sociedad from Almeria in the summer of 2022 for around 30 million euros, but after a promising start for the San Sebastian-based outfit, he suffered a torn cruciate knee ligament which saw him miss almost a year and he has struggled to recapture his early form at the club, scoring just four goals in 50 appearances in all competitions.

He will probably make his Valencia debut in the Copa del Rey away to second-division Eldense on Tuesday.

Valencia only collected 12 points from 18 games in La Liga after losing 2-1 at home to Real Madrid on Friday.
