WARSAW, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) -- Speed climber Aleksandra Miroslaw was awarded the Polish Sports Personality of the Year in Warsaw on Saturday.

With her gold medal at the Paris Olympics, Miroslaw unsurprisingly became the latest winner of the award, which is believed to be the most prestigious sports prize in Poland.

"I would especially like to thank my coach, who is my husband in my private life. He supported me in the most difficult moments. We experienced a lot together. I wouldn't have won the Olympic gold without his work," the 30-year-old said at the award ceremony.

"The Paris 2024 Olympic Games was a beautiful, but at the same time, a very demanding project," she added.

Athlete Natalia Kaczmarek, who secured bronze in the women's 400m at Paris 2024, finished second in the award. Volleyball player Wilfredo Leon was third after the 31-year-old led the men's volleyball team to the Olympic silver.

Tennis player Iga Swiatek, winner of the previous edition, took fourth place.

Poland's men's volleyball team won the prize for the Team of the Year, while Aleksandra Miroslaw's coach, Mateusz Miroslaw, emerged as the winner of the Coach of the Year award.
