JALALABAD, Afghanistan, Jan. 1 (Xinhua) -- Afghan security forces have foiled an attempt to smuggle 136 pieces of ancient coins to Pakistan in eastern Afghanistan's Nangarhar province, a local official said Wednesday.

The coins, which date back to Greco-Bactrian and Kushan eras, were seized at Torkham border crossing point between Afghanistan and Pakistan, Provincial Director for Information and Culture Qurishi Badlon told Xinhua.

In November last year, police foiled an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of relics, including 126 pieces of bronze, copper and silver coins representing different civilizations of the history in the southern Kandahar province.
