TOKYO, Dec. 31 (Xinhua) -- Japan's Mizuho Bank said Tuesday that its systems have encountered connection disruptions since around 7 a.m. local time, affecting internet transactions for individuals and corporations, local media reported.

The financial institution suggested that it may have experienced a distributed denial-of-service, or DDoS attack, in which networks are overwhelmed by data from multiple sources over a short period, Kyodo News reported.

Mizuho Bank, one of Japan's three megabanks, said there are no other issues detected such as a loss of customer data and is encouraging people to use automated teller machines for urgent transactions, the report said.

Recently, a series of cyberattacks have hit Japanese companies. On Monday, Resona Bank said its internet banking service for individual clients was temporarily disrupted, apparently due to a DDoS attack. Last week, networks of Japanese megabank MUFG Bank and Japan Airlines allegedly also came under a DDoS attack.
