RAMALLAH, Dec. 30 (Xinhua) -- Four Palestinian prisoners from Gaza died in Israeli jails, the Palestinian Liberation Organization's (PLO) Prisoners' Affairs Commission and the Prisoners' Club said on Monday.
In a joint press statement released by the two organizations, the four prisoners were identified as Mohammed al-Akka, 44, Samir al-Kahlout, 52, Zuhair al-Sharif, 58, and Mohammed Labad, 57.
Their death brought the Palestinian death toll in Israeli jails to five during the past 24 hours, and 54 since Oct. 7, 2023, according to the statement.
The statement described their deaths as a "growing humanitarian disaster," saying that the prison administration is working to "systematically and publicly liquidate prisoners."
The statement held the Israeli Prison Service fully responsible for the deaths of the prisoners, calling on the international human rights system to take actions to hold Israeli leaders accountable for the "crimes" of war.
There was no immediate comment from the Israeli Prison Service. ■
