WASHINGTON, Dec. 26 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President-elect Donald Trump said in a Christmas day social media post that Wayne Gretzky, an ice hockey legend from Canada, should run for prime minister of his country, which Trump again suggested should be a U.S. state.
Trump said Gretzky "would win easily" if he wanted to become the prime minister of Canada, "soon to be known as the Governor of Canada."
Gretzky, Trump added, "wouldn't even have to campaign" for the job, but he "had no interest."
Trump, who threatened to impose an additional 25 percent tariff on Canadian goods, has been floating the idea of the United States annexing Canada as its 51st state.
In a separate post Wednesday, Trump mentioned Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau by name, saying that "if Canada was to become our 51st State, their taxes would be cut by more than 60 percent." ■
