BEIJING, Dec. 25 (Xinhua) -- A total of 132,000 bottles of illegal "special supply" liquor were destroyed Tuesday in a coordinated nationwide event.
The event was a culmination of a year-long campaign, launched in March by the State Administration for Market Regulation, to crack down on the production and sale of liquor products that were deceitfully marketed as "exclusive products for government agencies or the military."
The campaign has uncovered unsanitary production practices, substandard ingredients and counterfeit labels used to market low-quality liquor as "exclusive" products.
These fraudulent practices have misled consumers, disrupted fair market competition, and severely tarnished the reputation of government and military institutions, the administration said.
Authorities have carried out comprehensive inspections of liquor production and sales, resulting in the removal of 1,796 illegal product listings on online platforms and 855 illegal ads. In addition, 84 stores were closed, and 175 online accounts were shut down.
In September, the administration issued a notice banning the production and sale of "special supply" liquor, clarifying that these products are counterfeit and substandard, falsely claiming associations with government and military institutions. ■
