Pakistan's food exports surge 19 pct in first 5 months of FY 25

ISLAMABAD, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan's food exports in the first five months of the current 2024-25 fiscal year increased by 19.60 percent as compared to the corresponding period of last year, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

From July to November of the ongoing fiscal year starting from July 2024 to June 2025, food commodities worth 3.155 billion U.S. dollars were exported as compared to the exports of 2.638 billion dollars of the same period of the last fiscal year, the PBS said on Wednesday.

The PBS said that the food commodities that recorded positive growth in their exports included rice, sugar, fish and fish preparations, meat and meat preparation, fruits, and tobacco.

Meanwhile, the imports of food commodities into the country during the first five months of the current fiscal year decreased by 11.13 percent.

The imports of food commodities were recorded at 2.977 billion dollars as against the imports of 3.350 billion dollars in the corresponding period of the last year, according to the PBS.
