TUNIS, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- Tunisia has welcomed 9.55 million foreign tourists so far this year, putting the country on track to hit the 10-million mark by year-end, local media reported on Thursday.

Aymen Rahmani, director of Studies and International Cooperation at the Tunisian National Tourist Office, told private radio station Mosaique FM that the country had recorded 9,555,000 foreign arrivals as of Dec. 10. This figure surpasses the 9.37 million foreign visitors recorded over the same period in 2023.

Rahmani expressed optimism that the total number of foreign tourists would reach 10 million by the end of the year, attributing the increase to the government's efforts to adapt the country's tourism offerings to diverse visitor expectations and attract new markets.

Tourism revenues for the year up to Dec. 10 totaled 7.05 billion dinars (2.21 billion U.S. dollars), underlining the sector's role as a key pillar of Tunisia's economy.

The country's tourism industry was severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic but has shown signs of gradual recovery in recent years.
