ISLAMABAD, Dec. 17 (Xinhua) -- At least two policemen were killed and three others injured late Monday night in a terrorist attack at a checkpost in Shangla district of Pakistan's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
Local police said on Tuesday that unknown gunmen stormed a police check post and fired indiscriminately and hurled hand grenades at the post in the Chakesar area of the district.
The attack was followed by a fire exchange leading to the killing of the two policemen, including an officer, and the injuring of the three other police personnel.
The terrorists managed to escape from the site after the attack, said police, adding that there is no report of any casualty on the terrorists' side.
Police, security forces and rescue teams rushed to the site and shifted the bodies and injured to a nearby hospital.
Security forces had launched a search operation in the region to arrest the culprits involved in the attack.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet. ■
