PHNOM PENH, Dec. 17 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia took their first win of the 2024 ASEAN Championship at the Olympic Stadium here on Tuesday, defeating Timor-Leste 2-1 in their Group A encounter.
Timor-Leste took the lead in the 22nd minute through captain Joao Pedro, before Cambodia equalized with a goal from midfielder Sor Rotana shortly before halftime. Forward Hav Soknet scored the winner for Cambodia in the 79th minute.
The 2024 ASEAN Championship opened on December 8 and runs until January 5. Cambodia is in Group A alongside Malaysia, Singapore, Timor-Leste and Thailand.
Cambodia had previously drawn 2-2 at home against Malaysia, before losing 2-1 away at Singapore.
Cambodia will now face Thailand on December 20 at the Rajamangala National Stadium in Bangkok. ■
