GAZA, Dec. 16 (Xinhua) -- The Palestinian death toll from ongoing Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip has topped 45,000, Gaza-based health authorities said in a statement on Monday.
During the past 24 hours, the Israeli military killed 52 people and wounded 203 others, bringing the total death toll to 45,028 and injuries to 106,962 since the Palestinian-Israeli conflict broke out in early October 2023, according to the statement.
There are still a number of victims under the rubble, and ambulance and civil defense crews cannot reach them, the health authorities noted.
Meanwhile, the Palestinian official news agency WAFA reported that five people were killed and several others injured on Monday after Israeli warplanes bombed a house in Beit Lahia, north of the Gaza Strip.
Three more were killed and some others injured in the Israeli bombing of the Nuseirat camp in central Gaza, it added.
The Israeli army has not commented on these incidents yet.
Israel has been conducting a large-scale offensive against Hamas in Gaza to retaliate against a Hamas rampage through the southern Israeli border on Oct. 7, 2023, during which about 1,200 people were killed and about 250 taken hostage. ■
