KUALA LUMPUR, Dec. 16 (Xinhua) -- The prime ministers of Malaysia and Thailand reaffirmed their commitment to economic cooperation and regional stability following a bilateral meeting here on Monday.
In line with this, the two countries will seek to deepen cooperation in a number of key areas including digital economy, tourism, commodities especially rubber, and management of their common border to combat transnational crime, Prime Minister of Malaysia Anwar Ibrahim and Prime Minister of Thailand Paetongtarn Shinawatra stated in a joint statement following the 7th Annual Consultation.
The leaders also stressed the need to maintain ASEAN centrality, improve regional integration and connectivity, and expedite negotiations on several memorandums of understanding (MOUs) regarding the cross-border transportation of goods and passengers.
"Both sides agreed to facilitate permit requirements for plant-based goods transiting through Thailand via the ASEAN Express freight train service between Malaysia and China," it said.
"Both prime ministers reaffirmed their support of existing energy cooperation and initiatives which are central to the shared vision of a more integrated, sustainable and secure energy future for the region, including under the ASEAN Power Grid initiative," it said. ■
