COLOMBO, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka had implemented 179 financially closed public-private partnership (PPP) projects valued at over 5.3 billion U.S. dollars between 1990 and 2023, according to the Asian Development Bank's (ADB) latest publication, Public-Private Partnership Monitor: Sri Lanka Report.

The report highlighted that the majority of these projects were concentrated in the power and port sectors. Of the total, 162 projects were related to power, while five focused on ports, which have become key areas for private sector involvement.

According to the ADB, PPPs have been instrumental in enhancing the quality and efficiency of port operations, with terminals developed through PPPs now handling approximately 70 percent of the country's port traffic.

The report also noted that about 25 percent of Sri Lanka's electricity is currently generated through PPP projects.

The ADB observed that the majority of financially closed PPP projects in Sri Lanka remain active, with only three projects canceled.
