XIAMEN, China, Dec. 13 (Xinhua) -- The 2024 Sunpadow International RC Off-Road Grand Prix kicked off Friday in Xiamen, a coastal city in east China's Fujian Province.
The remote control vehicle competition, running until Sunday, features five events: 1/8 GP buggy racing, 1/8 EP buggy racing, 1/7 KM scale Citroen C3 WRC gas RC rally racing, 1/7 KM scale Citroen C3 WRC electric RC rally racing, and 1/4 EP off-road motorcycle racing. Offering a total prize of 150,000 yuan (20,800 U.S. dollars), it attracted about 220 top RC drivers from countries and regions including Italy, Portugal, China, Sweden, Finland, Malaysia and New Zealand.
It was the first time for Italian RC driver Davide Ongaro to compete in China.
"I'm racing for Sunpadow Batteries, which is from China and from here. The material and all the products are super good. They are amazing and really doing a good job for us," said Ongaro.
Portuguese RC driver Bruno Coelhos, who has joined competitions in Xiamen four times, noted that China's RC racing scene has developed rapidly in recent years.
"China is one of the strongest countries to promote RC racing. Lately, many Chinese companies are investing and growing a lot in the RC industry, which is very good for us," Coelhos said. ■
