MANILA, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- Three scouts died, and 12 others were injured after being electrocuted on Thursday morning while moving a tent in a campsite in Zamboanga City in southern Philippines, police said.
Police Colonel Kimberly Molitas of the Zamboanga City Police told reporters that the accident happened when the metal tip of the canopy came in contact with a live electric wire.
The accident, which occurred around 9 a.m. local time, killed senior scouts aged 17, 18, and 22.
Organizers asked the scouts to move the canopy before the opening of the camping ceremony to provide shade to the participants.
The fatal accident prompted the organizers to cancel the planned four-day scout jamboree participated by over 2,000. ■
