RAMALLAH, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- Two Palestinians were killed on Thursday during Israeli raids on the city of Qalqilya and the Balata refugee camp near Nablus in the West Bank, according to Palestinian officials and eyewitnesses.
The Palestinian Health Ministry reported that 25-year-old Mohammad Brahma was fatally shot by Israeli forces in Qalqilya. His body was detained by the Israeli army, the ministry said in a statement. Witnesses stated that Israeli troops fired on a Palestinian vehicle in the city, critically wounding Brahma, who succumbed to his injuries shortly afterward.
In Nablus, clashes erupted during an Israeli raid on the Balata refugee camp, resulting in the death of 27-year-old Jihad Abu Salim. The Palestinian Red Crescent Society said its medical teams attempted to resuscitate Abu Salim after he was shot in the chest with live ammunition but were unable to save him.
The organization also accused Israeli forces of obstructing access to another injured individual inside the camp. Two others -- a 65-year-old man and a 60-year-old woman -- were hospitalized after allegedly being beaten by Israeli troops during the raid.
Eyewitnesses reported that the raid involved Israeli special forces, which triggered gunfire exchanges between troops and armed Palestinians.
The Israeli military has not issued a statement regarding the incidents.
Tensions have been escalating in the West Bank since October 7, 2023. According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, over 810 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli gunfire and airstrikes in the territory during this period. ■
