ABU DHABI, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- The United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Thursday strongly condemned a previous suicide bombing by the extremist militant group Islamic State (IS) that killed Afghanistan's Acting Minister for Refugees and Repatriation Khalil Rahman Haqqani and several others.

The UAE's foreign ministry in a statement reiterated the country's unwavering rejection of violence and terrorism in all forms, which contravene international law and aim to destabilize security and peace.

According to an earlier report issued by IS-affiliated news agency "Amaq," an IS militant detonated his explosive vest, resulting in the deaths of Haqqani and several of his colleagues and bodyguards.

On Wednesday, an official at the Afghan interior ministry told Xinhua that four people, including Haqqani, were killed and four others, including Haqqani's guards, were critically injured following the attack.

Haqqani is the first cabinet member killed since the Afghan caretaker government took over power in 2021.
