MEHTARLAM, Afghanistan, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- A three-day exhibition displaying domestic products opened Tuesday in Mehtarlam city, capital of east Afghanistan's Laghman province, a local official reported.
The exhibition seeks to establish market opportunities for locally manufactured goods and to promote public preference for domestic goods over imported ones, said Mawlawi Salamat Khan Belal, provincial director of industry and commerce.
According to Belal, farmers and businessmen from the local community display their merchandise, including carpets, fruits, vegetables and dairy at 40 stalls throughout the exhibition.
Earlier, Afghan authorities organized similar local product exhibitions in the provinces of Helmand in the south, Balkh in the north, Khost and Kunar in the east. ■
