MANILA, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- The Asian Development Bank (ADB) on Wednesday said it has approved a 200-million-U.S. dollar loan to modernize Pakistan's power distribution infrastructure and improve distribution companies' ability to deliver reliable electricity.
The ADB's Power Distribution Strengthening Project aims to upgrade and modernize distribution systems to meet the country's rapidly growing electricity demand.
According to the bank, the project will reduce significant energy losses during transit and enhance infrastructure resilience against climate change and disaster-related risks.
The ADB said the project will fund the installation of at least 332,000 advanced metering infrastructure, data management, communication systems, and at least 15,800 online transformer performance monitoring systems in the country's three major distribution companies. ■
