SAO PAULO, Dec. 3 (Xinhua) -- Dutch striker Memphis Depay scored twice as Corinthians extended their Brazilian Serie A winning sequence to eight games with a 3-0 home victory over Bahia on Tuesday.
Depay opened the scoring in the 12th minute at Corinthians Arena after combining with strike partner Yuri Alberto.
The latter doubled the hosts' lead on the stroke of halftime with a cool finish on the counterattack.
Depay completed the rout just after the hour by curling a stunning free-kick into the top-right corner.
The former Manchester United and Barcelona forward has now scored six goals in 10 league outings for Corinthians, whom he joined on a free transfer in September.
"I'm very happy with the two goals. I wanted the third, of course, but it didn't come," the 30-year-old said.
"I can still improve, and I know I have more to offer this club. But today was a magical night," Depay added.
Corinthians' winning sequence dates back to October 17, and they have not lost in the league since a 3-1 defeat to Sao Paulo on September 29.
Their winning run has seen them rise from the relegation zone in October to seventh in the 20-team standings with one match remaining.
The top six teams will automatically qualify for the group stage of the 2025 Copa Libertadores, while the seventh and eighth-ranked sides will earn a berth in the continental tournament's qualifying phase. ■
