MADRID, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) - Deportivo Alaves on Monday sacked coach Luis Garcia Plaza and replaced him with former Celta Vigo boss Eduardo Coudet.
Luis Garcia's sacking comes after a 1-1 draw at home to Leganes that leaves Alaves 16th in La Liga, just above the relegation zone after a run of seven defeats, one win and a draw in their last nine league games, that has seen them plummet down the classification.
"Deportivo Alaves wish to express their gratitude to Luis Garcia Plaza for his work and commitment during his time as coach for the blue and wish him the best for his future professional and personal projects," confirmed the club on its official website.
The former Levante and Getafe boss leaves Alaves after 108 games in charge after joining in the summer of 2023.
He led them to promotion to La Liga in his first season in charge after a dramatic win in the playoffs, and last season, the club from the Basque city of Vitoria finished 10th in La Liga.
At the same moment, Alaves announced Garcia Plaza's departure, and the club confirmed Eduardo Coudet as his replacement with a contract until the end of June 2026. Coudet's first game in charge will be in a Copa del Rey game away to Deportivo Minero on Thursday. ■
