SARAJEVO, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- Bosnia and Herzegovina's (BiH) Agency for the Identification of Documents, Registers, and Data Exchange (IDDEEA) on Friday introduced the country's first fully digital loan application process, marking a significant milestone in BiH's financial digitalization efforts.
UniCredit Bank is the first in BiH to enable customers to apply for cash loans entirely online. Using a qualified electronic signature, applicants can complete the process without visiting branches or signing physical documents, according to IDDEEA.
"This is a significant and very important step forward for the digital transformation of Bosnia and Herzegovina," said Almir Badnjevic, director of IDDEEA, at a press conference. He added that all eligible citizens can obtain the necessary electronic signature free of charge at IDDEEA offices in major cities across BiH.
BiH's Minister of Communications and Transport Edin Forto emphasized the broader implications of the initiative. "The launch of the online loan application process confirms the country's commitment to accelerating the digital agenda, which is essential for the economic future," he said. "This is a milestone for our financial sector, demonstrating our readiness to modernize services and simplify life for our citizens."
Luigi Soreca, head of the European Union (EU) delegation to BiH, highlighted earlier this month the importance of digitalizing public services, noting that such reforms are key to BiH's European integration efforts and offer substantial benefits for both citizens and businesses. ■
