HONG KONG, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- A total of 85 enterprises signed a memorandum of understanding about supporting and participating in the Northern Metropolis development with the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government on Friday.
Thirty-two inter-enterprise agreements were reached with a total investment of over 100 billion Hong Kong dollars (12.85 billion U.S. dollars) in such areas as infrastructure, housing and innovation technology.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, HKSAR Chief Executive John Lee noted that as a new engine for Hong Kong's growth, the Northern Metropolis can complement the high-quality integration of Hong Kong with other cities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
He encouraged enterprises to actively participate in land development and other commercial, innovation and technology industry projects in the Northern Metropolis, including the new large-scale land disposal development approach.
Lee vowed in the 2024 Policy Address to pilot a large-scale land disposal approach for developing the Northern Metropolis. The HKSAR government unveiled on Friday the locations and sizes of three pilot areas, which are expected to be open for tendering from 2025 to 2026. Each pilot area covers sites for residential, industrial and public facility constructions. ■
